We went out and about to find out where Nelson city gets its water from. First we went up a very steep hill to the Centre of New Zealand so we could see right over Nelson from up the Maitai Valley out through the city to the sea.

We have to buy the water to drink in Spain. The water is fine to cook in if we boil it. We havn't heard of anyone that has been sick - we are just being cautious.
The river Turia, which used to run next to the city of Valencia, flooded the city so many times that they had to change the course of the river (they re-directed it away from the city). The old river bed is now a big park with sculptures, playgrounds and tourist attractions like a big aquarium, museum and arts centre. The Spanish have used the rivers (and recycled "grey water" -old bath water and washing water) to make complicated irrigation channels to water all their crops. Lots and lots of oranges are grown here. Look out for "Valencia" oranges next time you are at the supermarket!
