Off to the Suter Gallery!

Yesterday we went to the Suter Gallery.
We went to look at some of the portraits.

A portrait is a picture of a person.
we discovered that a portrait can be a
painting, a drawing, a photograph or any
other way to make a picture that you can think of.

Ester told us that people do portraits so we can remember
people and the things they have done.

We tied hard to decide what the people in the portraits were
thinking about and how they were feeling.

We are going to have a go at drawing and painting portraits.
It will be fun painting our feelings

Funny, crazy, wacky, angry, sad, happy, serious, grumpy, scared
wicked, cool, miserable, excited, weird.........heaps to think about

Here we are being crazy!

A special visitor!

We were so lucky yesterday. Jessica Ahlburg came to visit us.
Jessica is really great at drawing and she illustrates books.
It was interesting hearing all about how she gets her ideas.
She drew a pig for us because one of her books is about a pig.

Jessica told Jordan that she does a light outline first and then goes over the lines to make it darker.

Oscar found out that Jessica uses a really sharp pencil to write the words under the pictures.

Jessica draws lots of cool things, not just pigs!

Thanks for sharing your ideas with us Jessica.
